California
We had a very pleasant night and didn't need the AC. It was 75° at 10:10am. We are on our way, about an hour later than we planned, but we are headed to LA where we start our journey along the west coast. Our day was a bit more open because we had it planned that way since we were getting to the coast and we wanted to have time to stop if we wanted to, so leaving a bit later only took time away from that.
the first look on the Pacific waters
The guys realized we were only several miles from the Rose Bowl Stadium and so we veered off course to drive by. Actually, the drive took us right there and so there was a pull off right before the stadium's parking lot, so we pulled off and ended up eating our lunch there.
As we pull away, oh dear, the muffler decided to regale us with its sounding roar! 🤔🙈
So on we go, to see a bit of LA, with a roar. (The boys thought now we're cool... 🤣)
We drove past the walk of fame, seeing the stars. Then we thought we're here, we should see the iconic Hollywood sign! Well, we never did see it but it did take us up, up, and up and winding around, WITH our camper! And to quite the view of the city and land beyond!
As we left LA and were in the throes of traffic, a tractor trailer beside us had his trailer brakes lock up and it caused him to bounce out of control over into our lane. So, so thankful that there was no one beside us and all ended well.
And our muffler commences to get louder!!
As we neared the city of Ventura, we got our first view of the Pacific Ocean. We plan to take the scenic Rt. 1 along the coast. Partway between here and San Francisco we need to go inland because there was a mudslide and Rt. 1 was closed.
Soon after we saw signs for a beach and so we pulled off, found our way, climbed over rocks and got our feet wet in the waters. Punta Gorda beach.
The boys jumped over the shoreline waves, getting a bit more wet than their feet! 😄 It sure gave them the itch and the urge to swim!!
California's landscape is covered with acres and acres, mile after mile of vineyards and vegetable crop farming. It was very intriguing and fascinating!
Avila/ Prismo Beach was our campground for the night. We arrived at 7:36 and so till we got set up and ate, the sun was setting. The beach was about 3 miles away, so after eating we headed to the beach, missing the setting sun, but still enjoyed the breaking of the waves. The boys were bummed that they couldn't swim but found fun in playing with the wave as it broke on the shore, staying just out of its reach. Then one wave won over the racing foot, and got it wet. So back we went to settle in.
This was our little detour and our place for lunch. There was a nice pull off just before the parking lot and so we stopped there.
Walk of Fame stars
downtown - trying to find the iconic Hollywood sign
never did find it but did find quite a view of the city and boy was it quite the drive up the hill!!
Punta Gorda beach just beyond Ventura, CA is where we first splashed in the Pacific waters.
This was the walkway from the parking lot under the road to then over the rocky hedge to the shoreline.
The boys enjoyed the waters very much and it gave them the itch to get in all the way. The waters were very cold though.
We got in too late for a swim. The boys were bummed and so they were 'playing' with the waves, letting the wave come as close as it could without touching them and then sometimes it was a mad scramble to evade the wave. All was good until one wave won over the foot and all got wet. Then it was time to go 'home'.
