Day 15 - The Jewel of Lake Tahoe

 Tuesday, June 27,2023
(halfway through our trip...)

California

This morning we didn't need to pack up, which was very nice.  So the morning was spent relaxing and doing some laundry, a needed mundane activity.  As I was finishing up I met the lady cleaning the facilities and we got started talking.  She said they had so much snow, more than she's seen in 30 years!  They had an accumulation of 742 inches of snow and the campground had an accumulation of 542".  Ski slopes had snow over the pulleys at one point.  Much of the area was isolated for a bit with some buildings being finally 'dug' out in May.

Yes, we are halfway through our trip and of course the 'space' can seem a bit cramped by now.  The youngest of this bunch seems to require more space than the rest of us.  Well, as one declares in response and was usually the brunt of the youngest's required space, says... "next level below hate is what I have for this boy!"  Oh dear, I guess our patience, tolerance is wearing a bit thin as we are together 24/7.

Lake Tahoe, Emerald Bay. Deep. Gorgeous.
Tahoe - Indian word for "big water, edge of a lake"

Because of its depth it never freezes as the warm and cold air keep a current that always keep the waters moving.

We had approximately an hour and a half drive to Lake Tahoe.  These are some of the scenery sights we saw along the way.

a pull off stop along the road

seeing fire effects years later

yep!  these mountains are always picturesque
(I know... it's summer and they're pretty. I'm sure winter has a different story...)

Entering the Lake Tahoe Basin natural forest area.

we were driving to the south side of the lake to Emerald Bay

and the view of the lake... so so blue!!

the lake and the mountains all in one

we found a spot to park and another fall of water over the rocks as we walked to the trailhead

and again... blooming. right here.

rushing waterfall

this and the next are photos Brandon took.  He was quite the photographer, capturing it from many angles and places.

climb, climb, explore, explore...

On we go to hike the Eagle Falls trail and once more the waters were rushing!

Eagle Falls ahead

Eagle Loop... on to Vista Point, a high place overlooking Lake Tahoe and
Emerald Bay.

I sat here for a bit just letting it soak in...
inhale - exhale, letting the exchange take place

Carlin observing his wounds as a result of brother

back down we go
always a step... following the way

The next photos are ones that said some info about Lake Tahoe that I found interesting.

We drove around the lake and found a beach to do some swimming only to experience the waters as cold. 🥶
More pics that I can't resist as we drove.

And as you swim or only get wet, the snow capped mountains are your backdrop. 😀💕Hmmm, never swam before with snow capped mountains in view.

water's reflections

lunch before swimming

hitting pinecones

who will brave the waters??

they are cold!

Carlin was the first one in again!!

Sheldon isn't too sure about the waters... he'd rather soak up the sun...

but doesn't want to be the one who never went in...
such decisions... and much coaxing is going on...

a guest... an observer...

once in they got used to it

now it's time to soak up some warmth

the lake from another angle

heading back to our home

the flowers were so pretty as they lined the road that took us to the campground
